Volunteering with Riverwood Community Centre is a great way to connect with your community, stay active and have fun.
We rely on our friendly volunteers to help our clients get the most out of the programs that the Centre offers. We provide training, ongoing support, and regular get-togethers to swap experiences.
We encourage people who speak English and another language to volunteer to assist our diverse client group. Our clients commonly speak Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Greek, Italian and Hindi.

How it Works
It is important that we get to know you and you get to know us before you commence volunteering. We will meet with you to talk about our services and clients, to discuss potential volunteering opportunities and to give you the opportunity to tell us about yourself.
As many of our services are provided to vulnerable people, we will also discuss the requirements that all our volunteers must meet to ensure that our clients are protected. These include completing the volunteer training program, a police check, and a working with children assessment.
All volunteers enter into a Volunteer Agreement with us that ensures you understand the requirements of volunteering as well as your rights as a volunteer.
Volunteer Training
We provide training for all our volunteers. The training is important, but it will not take too much of your time. It is delivered by qualified staff and aims to give you a thorough understanding of the role you are taking on. The training covers volunteering essentials like:
- Duty of Care and Volunteering boundaries
- Manual handling
- Safe food handling
Volunteer Events
We value our volunteers and arrange quarterly events to exchange your experiences and give us feedback. These culminate in a Christmas party where the Centre acknowledges the contribution that volunteers make to our community.
