Housing And Communities Assistance Program

This program focuses on the Riverwood Housing Estate. There are lots of different groups, events and community programs that run on the Estate. These include:

  • Riverwood Estate Advisory Board - A forum of stakeholders in the community such as Department of Housing, Police, Council, Community Centre, Department of Housing's Community Renewal Unit and Tenant Delegates that meet once a month to talk about the broader issues the Riverwood Community Faces
  • Neighbourhood Committees - The Estate is divided into 5 areas. Meetings are held once every two months to talk about local issues. See page 3 for more information.
  • Riverwood Community Gardens - The gardens are located on the Housing Estate, a lush display of vegetables and flowers, all grown by the tenants. The gardens have won many awards, including the Green Thumb Award (2003) and Canterbury Council Spring Garden Competition (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002).
  • Newspaper - A newspaper titled "Riverwood Inside News" is produced once every three months. The newspaper is delivered to 1300 Public Housing tenants and local businesses in the Riverwood area and includes articles from all services at Riverwood Community Centre, Department of Housing, and tenants on the Estate.
